French Guitarist Shares An International Sound by Bill Kramer It's pretty high praise to live up to being called "the Mozart of the guitar," as Pierre Bensusan has been characterized. The modest French-Algerian guitarist, who will grace the stage at Mockingbird on May 10, probably wouldn't call himself such a thing, though you might after hearing him play. His acoustic guit...

Review from Psychedelicfolk.com
4/17/2012
Pierre Bensusan’s newest album shows in his guitar style a very lyrical capacity, with beautiful songlike, wide-ranged melodic qualities, changing rapidly, fluently with a sophisticated strength, speeding up and slowing down melodically, and played in two layers of arrangements as if always playing two guitars at once. While most guitarists include the picking rhythm into the inspirations, Pie...

Transcribing Pierre's music from DADGAD into Standard Tuning
2/1/2012
The biggest challenge when transcribing Pierre's pieces is to try to recreate the natural resonance inherent in the DADGAD tuning for guitar. It is easy to make a note-for-note standard tuning version, but it is much more difficult to imitate the fingering and technical devices that Pierre uses in DADGAD to make the music sound rich and alive. His pieces are designed to inhabit the sonorous sound-...

And, most of all, he has the ability to give those who hear him a great deal of pleasure." Alexander Varty - The Georgia Straight (CA, 2005) "The range of emotion he achieves on the instrument is only slightly shad...
