Pierre Bensusan - Belle, je m'en vais en Allemagne

A friend just sent me this link of a concert I did at the Gurten Festival in Bern, Switzerland on July 2nd and 3rd 1977 when I was 20.

I’ve recorded that traditional French song on my 2nd album, « PB #2 », with an a-capella treatment on the vocal, supported by Patrick Molard’ s bagpipes, with the guitar appearing instrumentaly at the very end. Here the guitar is supporting the vocal all throughout the rendition of the song, and I cannot thank enough one of my early mentors, the English guitarist Martin Carthy, for how his influence and inspiration have transcended my approach of the instrument. All in one, it’s a big and very nice surprise for me to hear this song live for the first time, played with a guitar built by Michael Gurian. All acoustic, no reverb, no effects, all raw, no sweat 🙂 It was at a time when the Folk Music Revival coming from the US and the British isles was very strong in France and all throughout the European continent.
