These 6-hour all-day meetings are dedicated to the acoustic guitar and open to guitarists, amateurs, semi-pros, and professionals playing any style from various musical horizons.
The seminar is open to a maximum of 15 guitarists. I will be looking after each student’s progression.

CONTENT
Study of the acoustic steel string guitar in Fingerstyle, illustrated by techniques, excerpts of some of my compositions, and pieces suggested by students. The aim being to recognize the means, identify what we wish to play, with the goal of bringing together technique, intuition, performance, integrity, and pleasure.
While I play exclusively in DADGAD tuning, this tuition is aimed at ALL guitarists, whatever the tuning they use. We will look into how DADGAD works, but we’ll also investigate:
– Posture
– Touch: sound, tone
– Listening, ear training
– Rhythmic attention and articulation
– Phrasing
– Harmony-Chords: creation, positions, progressions, knowledge of the fretboard, … (in DADGAD and applicable to any other tuning)
– Arpeggios: variations, finger independence, rhythmic accents, fingering anticipation in regard to the context, rhythmic synchronization
– Scales and various modes by illustrating various right-hand techniques
– Fingerings for both hands: warm-up exercises and stretching
– Direct and indirect harmonics
– Non-conventional techniques such as slurs, liaisons, ornamentations for both hands, tapping, muting, harp effect (concept and applications), and so forth.
– Interpretation: nuances, dynamics, expression …
– Introduction to arranging and composing
COMMENTS FROM A STUDENT:
“I was a little apprehensive, thinking it might only be for ‘ masters’, or professional musicians. After all, I’m just a graphic designer who loves guitar. The class attracted players on all levels. There was a really accomplished player who missed a gig at a nearby festival to get there, and a very young kid who showed up with an electric guitar. And everything in between.
At one point, Pierre had us working on finger control, doing what should have been a very basic 2-finger exercise. It was disturbing how much I was struggling with it (after all, I thought I was a fingerpicker). Meanwhile, the little kid next to me had it nailed!
Pierre was sensitive to each of us. He treated us all as equals and answered all our questions. There was one-on-one interaction with all who attended. Being in a small-group setting and hearing the thoughts of this man, who has taken the artistry of fingerstyle guitar so far, was deeply inspiring.
Each of us, all at our different levels, walked away with a valuable experience. And so much to think about, you could pick and choose what to work on. The advanced players were challenged. But in many ways, I think those with the least experience may have had the most to gain. I wish I had an opportunity like that back when I was a teenager, teaching myself to play.
